about

Thør and Emma worked on each of those 43 tracks with 3 simple rules :
- each track should last less than 3 minutes ;
- each track should have a different structure and use different tools than its predecessor ;
- no track should belong to a definite genre or style, but rather consists in a permanent metamorphose.

"Shitshitshit", two years in the making, stands as the "Twin Infinitives" of our generation, relentlessly blowing up the putative rock song and collecting its tiny fragments to form another landscape, far more abstract, less paradigmatic, more related to cubism and Dada than the lo-fi scene.

Another key reference is Frank Zappa's "We're only in it for the money" for the sarcastic and satirical tone, and the use of sounds that are stereotypical of society, from commercial jingles to nursery rhymes to the silly voices of cartoons to any mainstream music genre.

The overall result is a sonic puzzle as much as a jungle of clumsy quotes, constantly derailed by puerile pseudo-avantgarde pretentions. It's an untamed beast, that can be agressive ("Self Discipline", "Total Lack of Silence") vulgar and illeterate, primitive as The Residents at their best.

The only constant is the lack of constant. Its absence of sense of purpose or focus is precisely the point. The duo rather sees the record as an "encyclopedia of musical mistakes or a detuned radio lost between two or three different stations".

"There are so many samples on this record ("approx. 230" Emma says) we're tired just figuring how to list all of them. If you recognize yourself and dont wanna be here, sue us, anyway we don't give a shit, music belongs to everyone, neither to you nor us." Emma & Vik.
